Rosciano's History
The austere castle built in the Longobard period on an ancient Etruscan and later Roman site and demolished in 548 D.C. by Toltila's Goths, was, by the 11th century, alredy considered as impregnable.
It reached its maximum splendor in the Late Middle Ages due to its military forces and for religious reasons.
This noble home of the Scifi's, Counts of Sassorosso, was originally composed of a fortified nucleus ana monastery. They were a family of imperial origin in the court of Frederick II, to whom the Emperor conceded the castle as feudal manor, and from whomSaint Clare of Assisi descends.
The Castle also was the noble home of the Tancredi line, a race of captains of war and peace who held important ofiices in the Municipality of Perugia and of the Montemelini.
